The University of Texas of the Permian Basin softball team battled A&M Kingsville through the end but the Kingsville came out on top 2-1.
UTPB got on the board first as junior Shanna Dees hit a single to drive in Alisha Carrasco, who reached on a double and moved to third on a stolen base. The Falcons had one run on two hits while leaving two runners on base.
Kingsville tied the game 1-1 the bottom of the first with a run of their own.
The game stayed tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs in the final inning, A&M Kingsville hit a single to bring in the winning run from third base.
The Falcons, as a team, had one run on 10 hits with an RBI and no errors. A&M Kingsville had two runs on six hits with two RBIs and an error.
Dee picked up the lost in the game going four complete with two hits and a run (earned) with two strikeouts and five walks. Bailie Summers finished the game going two and two thirds with one run (earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Kingsville pitchers combined for seven innings with one run (earned) with 10 hits three strikeouts and five walks.

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin softball team is starting to find a groove in the early part of the season as they lose two close games to fall 0-4 on the season.
Game one
UTPB held off Cameron in game one through the first two innings before Cameron put a pair of runs on the board. The Falcon answered back in the fourth with a run of their own to cut the lead in the half at 2-1.
However, Cameron extended the lead by two runs in the fifth to go up for good 4-1.
Falcon hitters had two hits and a run with an RBI and one error. Cameron hitters had eight runs with four runs with two RBIs and no errors.
Junior pitcher Shanna Dees picked up the loss for the Falcons going 5 innings while allowing six hits and four runs (two earned) with one strikeout and six walks. Bailie Summers finished the game going two innings with three strikeouts and a walk while giving up two hits with no runs.
Game two
The Falcons and the Texanns from Tarleton State were locked in a 0-0 tie until the fifth inning when a series of errors on Tarleton lead to a pair of UTPB runs to put the Falcons up 2-0.
The Texanns answered back in the bottom of the fifth with a run of their own to make the score 2-1.
UTPB held on to their 2-1 lead until the bottom of the seventh inning. Tarleton bunted a runner to third base who scored on a base hit to left field. The same hit moved another Texann to third base. Tarleton knocked in the winning run with a base hit to the shortstop to win the game 3-2.
UTPB hitters combined for two runs on four hits with two RBIs and no errors. Tarleton State hitters had eight hits for three runs with three RBIs and three errors.
Crystal Caddell started the game allowing four hits, one run (earned) and had one strikeout and five walks in five innings pitched. Erica Hollingsworth picked up the loss with 1.2 innings pitched allowing four hits and two runs (both earned) with no strikeouts and two walks.

The Falcons got off to a slow start in the 2010 season as they drop the season opener 8-1 to Texas Woman’s and game two 6-3 to Abilene Christian.
Game one
Texas Woman’s ran out to an early six runs in the first three innings before the Falcons put a run on the scoreboard. TWU add a pair of runs in the sixth to finish off the Falcons 8-1.
As a team, UTPB had one run on three hits with seven errors and one RBI. Texas Women’s had eight runs on five hits with one error, seven RBIs and a homerun.
Erica Hollingsworth threw a complete game with three strikeouts and three walks while giving up five hits and eight runs (4 earned).
Texas Women’s pitchers combined for seven strikeouts and three walks with three hits and one run (unearned).
Game two
Abilene Christian took an early lead with two runs in the first inning; however, UTPB cut the lead in half in the first and took the lead with two runs in the third.
ACU tied the game in the very next inning at 3-3 before taking the lead for good in the fifth inning with two runs to go up 5-3. The Wildcats added an insurance run in the seventh to drop the Falcons to 0-2 on the early season.
UTPB hitters where lead by leadoff hitter Alisha Carrasco who had a hit and two runs for the Falcons. The Falcons had five hits with three runs and three RBIs with an error.
Abilene Christian hitters had 10 hits for six runs with two RBIs and no errors.
Bailie Summers threw a complete game picking up three strikeouts with two walks while allowing 10 hits and six runs (all earned).
Abilene Christian pitchers had four strikeouts and four walks with five hits and three runs (one earned).
The Falcons will play day two of the St. Mary’s Classic on Saturday, Feb 6 with games against Cameron at 3 pm and Tarleton at 7 pm.
