The UTPB Lady Falcons fell to Texas A&M International‘s Lady Dustdevils on Sunday afternoon in the final contest of the three-game weekend home stand, 3-2. The Lady Falcons drop to 6-21 on the season and 0-9 in conference action.
Staying consistent with the first two contests in the series, the Lady Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead, just as they had in each of the past two outings against TAMIU. Unfortunately, TAMIU would stay consistent as they would come from behind for the third consecutive time against the Lady Falcons. After scoring two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first, the Lady Falcons continued their solid play through the first four innings of action.
However, UTPB would keep their bats warm, but could never get the critical hit to move runners around while the Lady Dustdevils finally got into a bit of a rhythm.
In the top of the fifth, TAMIU would pound out three hits and score two runs to tie the contest at 2-2. In the top of the sixth, TAMIU would add another run to make it 3-2.
In the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, UTPB would not be able to score while leaving four total runners stranded on the bases. For the game, UTPB would leave 11 runners on the bases.

However, the Lady Dustdevils got their bats warmed up in the top half of the fourth inning as they scored three runs on three hits to take a 3-2 lead. UTPB would get three hits in the bottom of the fourth but could not push a run across the plate.

Game Two
UTPB dropped the back end of the day’s double-header to TAMIU by a score of 4-2. Just as in the first game, the Lady Falcons led early but could not hold on to pick up the Heartland Conference victory.

TAMIU would retire the Lady Falcons quickly in the bottom of the fifth before adding two more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead on UTPB. That would prove to be enough for TAMIU as they shut down the Lady Falcons the rest of the way.
UTPB will return to action in the final game of the weekend series with Texas A&M International tomorrow afternoon at 12:00pm.
March 13, 2010
