The UTPB cross country teams traveled to Dallas Baptist University on Saturday to participate in the Heartland Conference cross country meet. The women’s team placed fifth out of nine teams while the men’s team finished fourth out of seven teams.
On the women’s side, Ariel Renteria finished 14th overall, which allowed her to be named to the Honorable Mention All-Conference team, with a time of 25:09. Renteria has consistently led the Lady Falcons throughout the season. Monica Tavarez was the only other UTPB runner in the Top 20, as she finished 20th overall. First year head coach Josh Caudill reflected afterwards on the women’s program. “Our goal this season was to finish better than where we were picked in the preseason (seventh), which we did with our fifth place finish. I believe our women’s program took a step forward this year. I am also very proud of Ariel and her efforts this season, which resulted in her being named to the Honorable Mention All-Conference team. She truly deserved this honor.”
On the men’s side, James Blessinger and Roy Rodriguez were named to the Honorable Mention All-Conference team for their performances. Blessinger, the leader for the Falcons throughout the season, finished 11th overall with a time of 27:30. Rodriguez finished right behind Blessinger in 12th place overall with a time of 27:47. Both are very deserving of the Honorable Mention All-Conference awards they received.”

The UTPB women’s cross country teams traveled to San Antonio this weekend to participate in the Incarnate Word Invitational. UTPB finished fourth in the 10-team meet.
On the women’s side, Ariel Renteria once again paced the Lady Falcons. She finished the 3.2 mile run with a time of 21:56. Her teammates followed her in over the next two and a half minutes.
Coach Caudill continues to be pleased with the Lady Falcons progress. “I am very excited about the fact that we ran as a unit today. This leads me to be excited as I believe we are peaking at the right time as we head to conference.”

The women’s cross country team participated on Friday, September 18, 2009 in the Texas Tech Open in Lubbock, TX. The women struggled on the day as they finished 10th in the 12-team event.
Ariel Renteria once again paced the Lady Falcons as she finished four seconds under the twenty one and half minute mark. The top five finishers for UTPB are listed below.

The UTPB cross country teams traveled to Amarillo on Saturday, September 12, 2009 to participate in the West Texas A&M Invitational cross country meet. The women’s team placed fifth out of nine teams while the men’s team finished fifth out of seven teams.
On the women’s side, Ariel Renteria once again paced the Lady Falcons in the 3.1 mile run by finishing fourth overall individually with a time of 20:54. Ariel was the only top 10 finisher for the Lady Falcons.
As a team, the Lady Falcons came up one point short of fourth place overall as they tallied 112 points, compared to 111 points by Texas A&M – Commerce. Eastern New Mexico won the competition with just 49 points. Southwestern Oklahoma State and host West Texas A&M finished second and third, respectively.
Head cross country coach Josh Caudill remains proud of the progress on the women’s side. “It is nice to see the ladies at full strength,” he stated. “The goal was to improve upon our performance in this event last year and we accomplished that.”
