Adam Collins Womens Head Basketball Coach

Adam Collins starts his first year at the helm of the Women’s program having been named Head Coach as well as the University’s Assistant Athletic Director.

Collins, 32, comes to UTPB after serving the past two seasons as the Men’s Director of Basketball Operations at NCAA Division I UNC Wilmington. While at Wilmington Collins was on a staff that produced the biggest turnaround in Division I basketball from the 2006-2007 season (7-22) to the 2007-2008 season (20-13).

Prior to Wilmington, Collins spent 8 seasons coaching on the collegiate level as both an assistant and a head coach. 

As a Head Coach, Collins has had tremendous success. He built Mercyhurst Northeast Junior College from a starter program into a national power in just 2 years. In his first year (2003-2004), the Saints finished with a 23-6 overall record, claimed the schools first ever conference championship, had a final national ranking in the top 10 both overall and defensively, and he was named NJCAA Region 5 Coach of the Year for his efforts. In the 2nd year, Collins led the Saints to a 21-8 overall record and once again the team ranked in the top 10 nationally both overall and defensively.

Collins also has a strong background on the NCAA Division II level having spent time as the top assistant at both IUP (PA) and Henderson State, two of the more historically powerful Division II programs.  While at Henderson, Collins helped rank the Reddies in the top 5 nationally in Defense. In his two years at IUP, Collins was part of a two year record of 44-17 and in 2001-2002 he helped lead them to the NCAA Division II Final 4.

Collins began his coaching career at his alma matter Charleston Southern University. He then accepted his first full-time position at Independence Junior College in Kansas where he helped lead the Pirates to their first Region Championship in 16 seasons. His ties to West Texas came from serving one year as assistant coach at Howard College in Big Spring.
